When I was presented with the opportunity to write a story outside the box, I leaped at it. The thought of pulling back from the recognizable form of a typical romance, slicing it off the potter’s wheel, wadding the raw clay back into a mass, then throwing it again to refashion something entirely unexpected was irresistible.

I decided one story wasn’t going to be enough. I wanted more. My Pelican Cay series was born with Intimate Strangers.  I certainly accomplished what I set out to do, which was to challenge our perceptions and expectations, and revisit what we assume is right, wrong, and excusable in the gray.

Allowing characters to change direction, act on impulse, screw up, and still make them not only relatable, but sympathetic isn’t easy.  It is, however, exhilarating and so worth it. I hope you agree.
